Skip's Supreme bound for NZDecember 2008

Quarantine restrictions are set to be lifted (all being well) and Skip's Supreme should be arriving late in January 2009. We can't wait!

Sportaloosa International is now a month old and welcomes its new members and registrations - thank you for being a part of an exciting new era in the promotion of spotted athletes.

Enriched left us for his new home in Wairoa and has begun breeding duties... Sheena, all the best for wonderful and very athletic foals.

Training Mighty Luminous to the breeding phantomAI training for Mighty Luminous

Petra and Mighty Luminous completed training at home with Equine Stud Solutions for top results.

Mighty Luminous' semen quality was proven to be excellent as was his behaviour and Petra now knows how to collect and prepare semen for transport.

Once the on-site phantom is constructed (due very soon), we'll be able to collect and transport semen NZ wide as you need it.

Sportaloosa International - the registry for Appaloosa, Knabstrupper & appaloosa spotted sporthorsesA huge thanks to Jane Taylor-Young for her assistance in bringing Mighty Luminous into work early this month, in preparation for his training for AI. Jane's incomparable approach to the training and total management of horses has been of enormous benefit to our programme.

It's thanks to her that our approach to our horses can be designed to develop them into willing partners... though we have a long way to go before we reach her standard! Jane offers one-on-one training programmes from her base in Pongaroa - see more at www.herdword.co.nz

The Sportaloosa International web site is online at www.sportaloosa.com. The Sportaloosa registry will be launched at Equitana in Melbourne but in the meanwhile, take a peek at what's planned.
September 2008

Sparkling Acres AppaloosasAugust 2008

It's fair to say the weather through August hasn't been the best for outside jobs!

Our fencing jobs are almost complete though and the stud sign is finally up at the gate. We're looking forward to starting a bit more work with the horses as soon as the ground dries out.
Spectacular Appaloosa colt EnrichedJuly 2008

Skip's Supreme
is the cover boy for NZ Natural Equine July edition. The same issue also features Sparkling Acres, with a special mention of what makes the Appaloosa such a wonderful horse.

The very special Appaloosa colt Enriched is to take up residence at Arawood Appaloosa Stud in Wairoa, Hawkes Bay. Congratulations to Sheena Martin on her selection of this exceptional stud prospect; here's to some stunning future foals! Sheena can be contacted on 06 838 6949.

Finally, we're delighted to have helped Cayuse Appaloosas get their long awaited web site online. Set aside some time and take a look at www.cayuseappaloosas.com.
Mighty Storm SongMighty Storm Song 1987-2008

Our thoughts are with Vince and Samantha McAuliffe on the loss of their most wonderful stallion Mighty Storm Song. A truly mighty and very special horse, who leaves a legacy very few sires can come close to.

We're very proud to offer one of his most super producing sons at stud to New Zealanders looking to produce a seriously good horse with a very cool head.
June 2008

Cayuse Just An Illusion (Australia) is the newest addition to the Sparkling Acres crew. This 2007 leopard filly is by Cayuse A Grand Illusion (by Grand Cru - Hanovarian, Germany) out of Cayuse Just Too Beautiful. All the performance ability, height and movement of a warmblood coupled with the cool head of an Appaloosa... She'll be bound for NZ later this year.

GB Lumanique won high point Appaloosa mare 2 & 3 years for 2007-08 after attending just a few shows - a huge congratulations to her owner Hayley Fenwick!

'Annie' has now been started under saddle and Hayley reports she's wonderful to ride. She's currently growing on, while Hayley and Jared enjoy their newest arrival, daughter Brooke.

May 2008

Appaloosa mare Momentarily ZippedEnough paddocks were fenced (just) to cope with the arrival of our lease mare Heather, who will be with us for a couple of years. Heather's type, movement and gorgeous temperament should make her a lovely cross with both Sparkling Acres boys for very athletic, tall foals.

The 2007/08 breeding season held some big challenges for us. Mighty Enchanting suffered life threatening complications during foaling while Momentarily Zipped baffled everyone with undiagnosed fertility problems. These days, Enchanting is looking a picture of health and we've made big progress with Misty through the use of homeopathic remedies so we're very hopeful both mares can be bred this coming spring.

Enchanting's Australian-based son Cayuse Faithful Few took out the Queensland State Championship in Youth Trail as well as winning the Prelim Dressage class with young rider Allie Donnelly. > See pictures

Finally, horses are travelling again from Australia to New Zealand. At this stage it looks like Skip's Supreme and Ultimate Allure will be with us around October... we'll keep you posted.

April 2008

Sparkling Acres Appaloosas' new home April 2008Sparkling Acres has now moved to the Whangaripo Valley, just east of Wellsford. Following weeks of dry, moving day obviously wouldn't have been the same without torrential rain, thunder, lightening and flood warnings...

The weather couldn't have been any worse but our horses took the conditions in their stride and are loving their new home.

March 2008

New arrival
We are very proud to announce that the sensational American stallion Skip's Supreme is coming to live in NZ. Imported to Australia as a yearling, he's already produced more than 20 stunning, coloured Appaloosa foals.

His progeny are tall and beautifully put together, with expressive movement and sensible temperaments.

We're privileged to be able to purchase a proven stallion of this calibre and grateful to to Vince and Samantha McAuliffe for the opportunity.

We're also indebted to Warren and Ann Lewis of Lewisville Appaloosas for taking wonderful care of Skip while he's been unable to travel to NZ.

January 2008

Sparkling Acres is on the move... our property at Silverdale, 30 minutes north of Auckland, has been sold and in mid-April we'll be moving to 37 acres in the beautiful Whangaripo Valley. That's just east of Wellsford and still only 90 minutes north of Auckland.

With rolling and fertile pastures, our new property will be a wonderful base for the stud and will help to give our young Appaloosas the best possible start in life.

22 April 2007 - the Appaloosa Project web site is open!

We are very proud to have worked with the Appaloosa Project over the past 12 months by contributing the web design expertise needed to present the their new educational web site at www.appaloosaproject.info. The information available at this web site is your key to consistently producing well marked foals - you can't afford to be without it.

An entire year in the making, the site contains a phenomenal amount of information that simply isn't available anywhere else. It's well presented, easy to understand and - most importantly - the information is backed by evidence that meets the very high standards set by the scientific community.

Our involvement with the Appaloosa Project is based on much more than our love of the Appaloosa. The Appaloosa Project team researches carefully, explains how it has reached any conclusion and takes great pride in teaching, based on information that is as accurate as it can make it.

Take a look at www.appaloosaproject.info now; you won't regret it.
